As a partner at Herbert & Weiss, attorney Helayne M. Weiss helps clients throughout New Jersey in all types of family law matters, including divorcecustodychild supportadoptions, name changes, and domestic violence restraining orders. She also represents individuals and businesses in matters involving, estate planning, and commercial and residential real estate transactions. The firm additionally maintains a significant appellate practice and currently represents several municipalities in tax appeal work.

    About me

    Helayne Weiss earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she was a member of Gryphon and Pleiades, an honor society limited to no more than 12 seniors who exemplify the ideals of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship. She earned her Juris Doctor law degree from the City University of New York, during which time she served as Law Clerk to the Honorable Clifford A. Scott of the New York Supreme Court, Criminal Division.

    Ms. Herbert is an avid gardener and a proud member of both the Garden Club of Englewood and the Garden Club of America. She enjoys riding her bicycle with her husband and friends, and she regularly practices yoga and meditation. Earlier in her career, she was actively involved in politics, finding fulfillment in serving her communities. Above all, Ms. Herbert is known for her deep love of nature and her affection for animals and pets.

    A Lengthy Record of Community Involvement

    Ms. Weiss is a former member of the Bergen County Advisory Council on Disabilities. She has received a Certificate of Commendation for Outstanding Service to Victims of Domestic Violence from the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Bergen County Department of Human Services. She currently serves as President of Women Lawyers in Bergen.

    Ms. Herbert serves on the Early Settlement Panel program, assisting in settling matrimonial cases in the Superior Court, Bergen County, New Jersey. She recently concluded her position as Chair of the District IIB Ethics Committee for the New Jersey courts. She has also served as a prosecutor in the Boroughs of Moonachie, Little Ferry, and Bergenfield. In addition, Ms. Herbert has co-managed a legal counseling project for the Women’s Rights Information Center Legal Project for 30 years, she was co-counsel for the Shelter Our Sisters Legal Advocacy project, and a participating attorney for the Bergen County Legal Advocacy Project for the Victims of Domestic Violence. Presently, Herbert & Weiss is managing and advocating for victims at the Women’s Rights Information Center law project in Englewood, NJ.
